Frequently Asked Question
When setting up file-shares between department, for example for collaboration on a monthly basis, we can use the same system as demonstrated in the How do I share files article, or from within OneDrive:
Let's say we are in the Accounts department, collaborating on a month-long project which our colleagues will need constant access to from File Explorer. Share the folder in the same way, and the recipient will get an email:
This then opens the folder in the sharer's OneDrive
To work with this file in collaboration, the recipient can Sync the folder with their computer by clicking the button shown. This dialog box will appear
Open Microsoft OneDrive will launch the App on your computer and you will get a pop-up in above OneDrive in the system tray
Click on this and it will open the folder in your File Explorer
It will appear under Murray Edwards College SharePoint, and all the changes made by you or your collaborators in Accounts will automatically synchronise.
Important!
Only Sync what you really need to Sync. If there are too many files, particularly large files in a synced folder, this will cause OneDrive to slow down and sync errors will occur.
When you no longer require the fileshare, you must remove it.
This will open your sharing settings
Stop sync, and confirm with the following dialogue box.
Your fileshare is removed from your PC and remains in the sender's OneDrive.
