Adding a Desktop Shortcut for an Edge Profile
Last Updated 2 years ago

Open the profile you wish to create a shortcut for and type edge://version into the address bar and press enter. You'll see many details about the browser, but the piece of information you need is the profile name as the computer sees it:

Now to create the shortcut on the desktop: Go to your desktop, right click > New > Shortcut and then locate msedge using Browse... it can be found here on a Murray Edwards desktop

Click OK. Then you have to add the profile reference to the location.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --profile-directory="Profile 2"

Note the space after the location of msedge.exe", this is essential, as are all the hyphens, equals and speech marks. Click Next.

Give it a friendly name, such as Edge - Work 2 or whatever you've called your profile to distinguish it. Note that if you've changed the name of the profile as shown in the previous article, it will not have changed the name of the profile, i.e. in this example, I renamed the profile to Lucy but it is still shown in the version info as Profile 2.

Your shortcut will now appear on your desktop.
