Frequently Asked Question

Setting up @Murray and @Cam accounts in Edge Profiles
Last Updated 2 years ago

This 10 minute fix will allow you to switch between the @cam and @murray worlds quickly and keep them easily accessible without having to sign in every time:

Open Microsoft Edge. If you don't already have it, you can download it here...

Microsoft Edge works better than Google Chrome for University (@cam) accounts, because Chrome will try to open Google Workspace (and Gmail) to manage your account. This works to an extent, but the University is moving away from Google

Add your Murray Edwards account to Profiles:

Select Work or School and Continue

Sign in with your firstname.surname@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk and use your Office PC login password.

When you see this message think very carefully about what you do! If the device you are using is personally-owned you should uncheck the box. Accepting the default setting will make your computer appear in our device management system and we will have full access to admin rights etc. If the device is owned by Murray Edwards, keep the box checked and continue.

When the process is complete (it will take a minute or two if you're allowing us to manage your device), you will see that the picture in the profile has changed to your @murray avatar, or most likely, your initials. If you don't have an avatar, you can add one in your Delve settings. Sign into office.com and save your credentials this will keep your browser profile signed in!

Customise your Profile:

Once in the Office 365 environment, you can click your initials (or existing profile picture) and select My Office profile

If you're unfamiliar with Delve, don't worry, it's relatively new to our Office 365 environment, and a great way of getting a feel for how things work together now.

This is now the place to go to change your profile picture and, if you're really into sharing, Update your profile and add lots of personal information!

Add your @cam account to Profiles:

Repeat the process above but with your @cam email address. As indicated in the first screenshot on this page, when you click your avatar or initials, you have the option to Add profile. Sign in with your @cam account  to enable you to easily switch between the profiles.

Managing Profiles:

You can change the name of each profile by clicking Manage profile settings. Click the ellipsis in your current profile to edit the name:

Your other profiles appear further down the page. In order to edit, click Switch to open a window in that profile, then edit in the same way as indicate above.

There are many different options to explore within each account. See the Settings sidebar, for example, this is where you can control various aspects of how the browser behaves in this profile, for example default search engine. Another useful feature is Passwords (in the middle pane), which shows which saved passwords you have, and a particularly useful feature is that it shows you how strong each password is, and how many times it is being reused.
